Overview
Primary risk factors for acute kidney injury are diabetes, hypertension, and advanced age. It occurs over a few hours or days. It is increasingly recognized as an in-hospital complication of sepsis, heart conditions, and surgery.
Acute kidney injury is also associated with higher likelihood of long-term care, incidence of chronic kidney disease and hospital mortality, and health care costs
