Overview
Besnoitia bennetti is known to infect equids and has been reported in horses and donkeys in Africa, Asia, and, more recently, the United States. Currently, the only reported cases of equine Besnoitiosis in North America have been in donkeys.
Bovine infection with B. besnoiti produces more severe clinical disease than is observed in equine Besnoitiosis, with significant morbidity and mortality reported during recent outbreaks in European cattle.
