Microscopic enlargement of Babesia

Plasmodium malariae, found worldwide, is one of the four species of Plasmodium that causes malaria.

In some chronically infected patients P. malariae can cause serious complications such as the nephrotic syndrome. In some cases, the infection can last a lifetime.
